Pappu, born at Kuthiravattom in Calicut as the only son
of Panagodu Raman and Devi, was a great comedian and actor
in Malayalam film field. He got the opening to big screen
through Ramu Karyat and Vincent after they saw his stage
performance in 'Mudiyanaya Puthran'. By introducing new
and extraordinary faces to comedy by his typical and attracting
'Kozhikodan style', he attracted people to his films.
His performance in 'Aalkkottathil Thaniye', 'Etho Oru
Theeram', 'Kanakkinavukal' was remarkable. The turning
point in his career was his roles in 'Chembarathi', 'Avalude
Ravukal', 'Angaadi'. Character roles he did in many of
his films was also noteable.
Having presented over 1000 instant plays and appeared
in 2 professional drama, 'Samasya' and 'Manasu', his contribution
towards drama was also commentable. His first stage performance
was when he was 17 years old. His role in the drama 'Samasya'
fetched him the Best Comedian Award. His fascination towards
the stage continued even after his entering films and
he formed 'Akshara Theatres' involving some of his friends
at stage. Pappu has worked with Kunjandi, Thikkodiyan
and K.T. Muhammed.
He received S.P. Pillai award for his contribution to
the film field. He passed away following cardiac arrest
on the 25th of February, 2000 when he was 64.
